Here's To Luck (by Tanja)

While travelling on one of the Western Cape's beautiful rural roads, I saw a sign above the entrance to a very well-manicured farm: Faith, Hope, Love, Luck Here is my interpretation: Faith - Usually associated with the religious belief in a higher power, but also believing in the impossible becoming possible. Hope - Faith and hope are like a married couple. Faith gives hope and hope reinforces faith. Not only for the religious however. For example, we hope for our poor circumstances to change for the better and have faith that it will happen. Hope can also be unrealistic, but without it one can feel ... well, hopeless. Love - Everyone on this planet needs love. We can’t survive without it. Love is caring, sharing, giving, receiving. Love is the unending circle of wellness. It comes in many forms. It has no conditions attached and crosses all boundaries. Luck - The person who wrote these words on the sign was speaking from experience. Without a little bit of luck, the other three ...

Who We Are As a Nation

We interrupt our usual Blog time for this Important Announcement! We, the South African people, are NOT our government. Here's a genuine fact: Not everyone has common sense. You cannot study for it at university and many learned men and women today lack it completely. The ANC government and their cadres definitely have no common sense. Under the ANC rule we have seen the downfall of infrastructure and major corporations: Eskom, Transnet, SA Postal Services, South African Airways, the defense force, etc. etc. etc.  Unfortunately, the no-common-sense majority of our country vote for the ANC. We, the common-sense (minority) people of South Africa, do NOT support: Corruption Communism Terrorism or the support thereof Money laundering Cadre deployment BEE High unemployment rate The downfall of the economy High crime rate Farm murders Gender-based violence Rape We, the common-sense people of South Africa support: Democracy Freedom of speech Equal opportunity for all peop...

The Power of Positive Blah Blah Blah (by Danie)

THE POWER OF POSITIVE BLAH BLAH BLAH 😊 One day I was waiting for Tanja in the car while she ran into the shop. We were parked in a disabled parking. There’s a reason why I use a disabled parking. Try getting out of a car with two prosthetic legs,  parked in a normal parking space,  and we’ll talk again.  Well, my door was closed on this occasion (it was winter) and an elderly man walked up to me and pointed out that the parking was for disabled people. I rolled down my window and with a slight bit of drool running out of my mouth, I responded: “I … I ... I ... I ... know, I ... I ... I ... stutter.” 😊 Life, my friends, is a journey filled with unexpected twists and turns. Each one of us faces challenges that sometimes seem impossible (especially without legs), whether they be financial, health-related, or matters of the heart. Come with us on a journey through our own experiences - a journey that echoes the strength that is within each of us. Have you eve...

Embracing Change (by Tanja)

Embracing Change: Life After Amputation S o many people ask Danie: "So, how did it happen?" His usual answer is: "Shark attack!" But then he tells people how he couldn't "outrun" the effects of living with Type 1 Diabetes for 48 years. Finding the humor in the horror is a good way to cope with any situation. However, facing day to day challenges, will prove to be more than you can often cope with. Here are a few practical ideas which really helped us. Losing both legs is a life-altering experience, but it doesn't mean that life has to come to a halt. In fact, it can be the beginning of a new chapter filled with resilience, determination, and positivity. In our blog posts, we will share personal stories of overcoming challenges and finding inspiration after amputation, and provide tips on how to embrace change and live a fulfilling life. 1. Acceptance is the first step The journey towards embracing change starts with accepting your new reality. It...
